Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Tafyra is a dynamic filmmaker based in Toronto, with a strong commitment to blending creativity, education, and cultural storytelling.
A graduate of TMU’s Film Studies program and a participant in the OYA Emerging Filmmakers initiative, she has produced, written, and directed several short narratives and documentaries that reflect her personal experiences and unique perspective. Her passion for storytelling led her to co-produce the short film Destreamed, which premiered at the prestigious Pan African Film Festival in 2023.
Beyond filmmaking, she's an avid lover of the arts and frequently collaborates on a wide range of creative projects, including educational animation, sound design, and production design. Tafyra is particularly dedicated to creating animated content for Jamaican children, blending entertainment with education in a way that resonates with her roots.
She is committed to guiding emerging filmmakers and hopes to reshape the film industry by bringing a unique voice to the table.
